Brazilian samba and bossa nova singer-songwriter Astrud Gilberto, famous for singing “The Girl from Ipanema”, died at the age of 83 in the US on 5 June, just a day before French painter Françoise Gaime Gilot – former lover of the late Spanish painter Pablo Picasso – passed away, also in the US. Gilot was 101 years old.
