A 38-year-old man surnamed Zheng and a 55-year-old woman surnamed Wang have been detained and charged with destroying a cultural relic after the pair, both from the Chinese autonomous region of Inner Mongolia, reportedly dug a hole through a section of the Great Wall of China to create a shortcut. The section is located in Yang Qianhe Township. The Great Wall of China is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. According to the Youyuxian County Public Security Bureau, the damage is severe and irreversible, as reported by various media groups.
