University of Macau (UM) Vice Rector Rui Martins received an honorary membership from the Association of Portuguese Speaking Universities (AULP) during the association’s board meeting that was held in Lisbon, Portugal recently. 

The meeting was chaired by AULP President João Nuno Calvão da Silva, who is also the vice rector of University of Coimbra. Martins was attending the meeting on behalf of UM, which is one of the vice presidents of the association. 

The association awarded Martins the certificate honorary membership in recognition of his significant contribution to the association over the years. The certificate has so far been awarded to only five individuals in the world. Martins, who was honoured in 2021, received the certificate in person during the board meeting.

Meanwhile, the 33rd AULP Annual Meeting will be hosted by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) this year. The event will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 24-26 June. In addition, Martins proposed during the Lisbon board meeting to hold the next AULP Annual Meeting in Macau in 2026, which will be further discussed by the association.
