The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has recently added 12 more “ancient” trees to the city’s “List of Protected Ancient and Valuable Trees”, while three trees have been removed, with the total number of Macau’s ancient trees on the list now standing at 654.

The twelve ancient trees added in this update – ranging from 101-140 years old – comprises a total of six species, namely Ficus rumphii, Celtis sinensis, Mangifera indica, Camphora officinarum, Sapindus saponaria and Bombax ceiba, mainly distributed in Coloane and Taipa, according to the bureau.

The oldest of the trees, a Ficus rumphii tree in Largo Tam Kong Miu in Coloane, is 140 years old. For more information about Macau’s ancient trees visit IAM’s website or contact 2833 7676.
