6TH ENCOUNTER IN MACAO, 2024 GEG LUSOFONIA FESTIVAL INAUGURATED 

The opening ceremony of the “6th Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” and the “2024 GEG Lusofonia Festival” was held at the Taipa Houses area on 25 October. 

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), with the support of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), TDM and Air Macau, the “6th Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries” is held across the city from October to December, featuring 70 sessions of activities and nearly 700 artists and performers. 

Meanwhile, the “2024 GEG Lusofonia Festival”, jointly organised by IC and Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), is for the first time held over two weekends this year, from yesterday to tomorrow and from 1-3 November, at the Taipa Houses area.

Celebrating its 27th edition this year, the Lusofonia Festival combines music and dance, games, gastronomy and cultures from different Portuguese-speaking countries and regions, allowing residents and tourists to experience the exuberant vitality of these Portuguese-speaking places and gain a deeper understanding of their rich cultures. 

This year’s Lusofonia Festival focuses on the culture of Goa, Damão and Diu, and chefs and artists from the region were specially invited to present their local specialities and the art of body painting in Macau. Furthermore, the six-day event features cultural exhibitors from 10 Portuguese-speaking communities residing in Macau: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Goa, Daman and Diu, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor, as well as the Macanese communities.
