The Macao University of Tourism (UTM) held its 30th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the Macau Tower earlier this week.

The celebration was held as a “gathering with the community to review the university’s development journey and achievements over the past three decades, and to express heartfelt gratitude to all sectors for their long-standing support”, according to the university.

During the event, UTM Rector Fanny Vong expressed appreciation to the Macau Government and the community for the longstanding support, which has enabled the university to deepen its expertise in culture and tourism education and cultivate numerous professionals.

She also highlighted UTM’s extended campus initiatives in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, pointing out that the local university is actively preparing for the construction of a new campus, with transitional teaching scheduled to begin in the academic year along with a gradual expansion of scale.

UTM looks forward to leveraging the vast development opportunities in the Cooperation Zone to further enhance teaching and research capabilities, foster industry-academia-research collaboration, as well as cultivate more high-quality talent for the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the nation, contributing to regional development, according to the university.

Meanwhile, during the gala dinner, UTM also unveiled its first official mascot, “Chase” (pictured) – inspired by kingfisher birds commonly seen in Macau – that symbolises happiness, courage and determination, embodying best wishes for the university’s future, UTM pointed out in a press release.
