The “2025 GEG Lusofonia Festival” kicked off at Taipa Houses on Friday.
Jointly organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), as well as co-organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), this year’s festival runs from 24 to 26 October and 31 October to 2 November, in conjunction with the “7th Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries”.
The 7th Encounter in Macao is organised by IC and supported by MGTO, IAM, TDM and Air Macau Company Limited.
Celebrating its 28th edition, Lusofonia Festival has become one of Macau’s signature events to underscore the city’s multicultural atmosphere and its role as a cultural exchange hub for the Portuguese-speaking communities, according to IC.
This year’s festival comes with a focus on Angolan culture, where chef Lisandra Pita and artist Armando Scoott have been invited to hold gastronomy and a sketching presentation, respectively.
Throughout the six-day event, 10 cultural booths from the Portuguese-speaking communities residing in Macau – Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor, as well as the Goa, Daman and Diu, and the Macanese communities – will showcase music, arts and crafts, traditional costumes, gastronomy and touristic information.
The art troupes and performers – including dance groups and singers – featured in this year’s event include Calema (São Tomé and Príncipe), Marisa Liz (Portugal), Rui Orlando (Angola), Memu Sunhu (Guinea-Bissau), Josslyn (Cape Verde), Galaxy (East Timor), Carimbó Paidégua (Brazil), Tafika (Mozambique), Negros Unidos (Equatorial Guinea) and Sanskruti Sangam (Goa, Daman and Diu).
