To comply with the latest requirements announced by the International Civil Aviation Organisation about airline passengers carrying and using lithium battery power banks, Macau SAR’s Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) has instructed Macau International Airport and Air Macau to implement the following measures effective immediately: “each departing passenger can carry no more than two power banks in their carry-on baggage, and charging power banks during flights is strictly prohibited.”

The new requirements are now in effect, further enhancing aviation safety, according to AACM.

AACM has been closely monitoring the safe management of passengers carrying power banks and issued a safety notice titled “Carriage of Power Banks/Spare Lithium Batteries as Carry-on Baggage on Board an Aircraft” to Macau’s aviation sector in September 2025 as guidance to improve operational safety.

AACM said it will continue to follow up on the latest developments regarding the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s safety standards for the transport of dangerous goods and coordinate with industry operators to implement them promptly.

Passengers with any queries are advised to contact their respective airlines directly before departure for the latest information.
