Kuwait, Lebanon and Algeria have recently banned the Hollywood blockbuster “Barbie” currently shown everywhere around the world, with the reason to protect “public ethics”. Kuwaiti Ministry of Information said the film promotes “ideas and beliefs that are alien to Kuwaiti society and public order”, while Algeria’s Culture Ministry pointed out that it promotes “Western deviances” that do not comply with the country’s religious and cultural beliefs, according to various media reports.
Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, the movie became an instant hit when it was released a few weeks ago, with ticket sales worldwide having reached over US$1 million already.
