Inter Miami player Lionel Messi has finally responded over why he did not play during the David Beckham-owned football club’s exhibition match in Hong Kong recently. He revealed in a post on his Weibo account on Thursday that a groin injury had prevented him from playing in the match.
“To all the fans in mainland China and Hong Kong, hello. As mentioned in the press conference, I’m sorry that I couldn’t play in the friendly match in Hong Kong due to a groin injury. The injury caused swelling and pain. My friends who know me understand that I always want to give my all in every game, especially in this situation where we travelled a long way to be here with our teammates. The fans were looking forward to seeing us in good health. I hope that one day we will have the opportunity to come back and play for the fans in Hong Kong. I also look forward to returning to mainland China as soon as possible to share the joy of football with everyone,” his Weibo post says, as reported by Dimsum Daily.
Meanwhile, fellow Inter Miami footballer Luis Suarez also did not play in the Hong Kong match.
