ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING EXHIBITION BY PORTUGUESE ARCHITECT JOÃO SANTA-RITA TO BE HELD IN ALBERGUE SCM

UM PARTICIPATES AT MILAN DESIGN WEEK 

The CAC – Círculo dos Amigos da Cultura de Macau will present the “Drawing to Reveal, Solo Exhibition by João Santa-Rita on the occasion of the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Macau Handover to China” at the Albergue SCM from 27 March to 7 May. 

Prior to this, the artist will give a seminar (in English), entitled “The Relevance of Architectural Representation” in Room 220, Block N at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Taipa on 26 March, from 7-9:15 pm. The seminar will discuss the significance of architectural drawings  in historical trails and explore the concepts and principles of architecture and urbanism. Meanwhile, the exhibition at Albergue SCM, in Sao Lazaro district, will present six thematic groups of nearly 200 architectural drawings, on which the exhibition is based as it explores the potential of the city matrix and fabric and the contradictions resulting from the combination of different forms and shapes of open spaces and buildings, according to the organisers. 

Born in 1960, Santa-Rita graduated from the Department of Architecture of Escola Superior de Belas-Artes in Lisbon in 1983 and is currently an associate professor at the Autonomous University of Lisbon in Portugal. He has been involved in many architectural projects and received some awards for his architectural designs. In addition, Santa-Rita has a passion for art, with his works having been exhibited in various places around the world.

Sponsored by the Cultural Development Fund and supported by Albergue SCM and the Orient Foundation, the exhibition will be held in Albergue SCM’s A2 Gallery. Admission is free.
