SJM Resorts launched its “Dragons of the Four Seas Tribute to Macau” Lantern Art Exhibition in an opening ceremony held at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau in Cotai on Thursday in celebration of this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival as well as the 75th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Macau Special Administrative Region (20 December).
A collaboration between the local integrative resort company and the Macau Artist Society for the third year in a row, the current lantern art showcase is held at the Grand Lisboa Palace premises and Hong Kung Temple Square, displaying the work of two mainland artists Li Wentao (from Foshan) and Wang Sibo (Beijing), Hong Kong artist Uncle Tsang and local artist Lao Chon Hong.
The artists crafted four majestic lantern installations inspired by this year’s Chinese zodiac sign of dragon.
The exhibition’s ceremony was attended by SJM Managing Director Daisy Ho, among others, who said, “Lantern-making is an art form steeped in rich historical significance.”
She added, “This collaborative approach not only refreshes the art of lantern-making but also highlights Macau’s ‘one base’ role as a hub for cultural and artistic exchanges between the East and West, solidifying its position as a vibrant participant in the Greater Bay Area’s cultural landscape.”
Blending contemporary art trends with traditional lantern making techniques, the four participating artists have “pushed creative boundaries, showcasing the dazzling allure of China’s exceptional traditional culture”, according to Macau Artist Society representative Lai Sio Kit.
Lai pointed out, “These four installations symbolise the prosperity, innovation, inclusivity and inheritance of our Motherland and Macau, inspiring our aspirations for a brighter future.”
In this exhibition, guests can marvel at the artistry of the lanterns as well as immerse themselves in an augmented reality (AR) experience by scanning QR codes.
This innovative blend of reality and virtuality transcends spatial boundaries, creating a truly unforgettable experience of appreciating lanterns.
