Mainland Chinese artist Gao Shiqiang’s solo exhibition in Macau will kick off at Albergue SCM in Sao Lazaro district tomorrow evening.
Organised by CAC – Círculo dos Amigos da Cultura de Macau and funded by the Cultural Development Fund (FDC), the “Shanshui Theatre – Solo Art Exhibition by Gao Shiqiang: Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Macau’s Handover to China” will showcase video works related to “Shanshui” (traditional painting of “mountains water”) from various periods of Gao’s career.
Through these works set against the backdrop of mountains and waters, the artist explores gender relationships and presents the developmental landscape in China. The exhibition also conveys the diverse and profound consciousness of time and space within the world of mountains and waters, according to the organisers.
Born in Shandong in 1971, Gao is currently a doctoral candidate and professor at the China Academy of Art’s School of Intermedia. He is also the vice-chairman of the Zhejiang Photographers Association. Since the mid-1990s, the artist has been engaged in the creation and research of situational sculpture, installation and experimental video.
In the early 2000s, Gao’s research and teaching gradually focused on moving image art, and in recent years, he has dedicated himself to the narrative research and creation of spatial imagery. He has held numerous solo exhibitions around the world, including in Norway, Spain and the United Kingdom.
The exhibition will run until 5 January 2025. Admission is free. For more information visit CAC Macau’s Facebook page or contact 2852 2550/2852 3205.
