The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) today will give away the ornamental flowers used for the city’s festive period in a bid to “extend the lives of the plants and promote public awareness of greening in the living environment”, according to the bureau.
The bureau will offer the ornamental flowers at Taipa Central Park at 11 am, as well as at the Flora Park at 3 pm today. The plants available for the public to take away include citrus plants, dahlias, marigolds, strawflowers and margueritas, among others. The plants give-away is based on a first come, first served, with the activity ending when all the available plants have been distributed to the public.
To beautify the city and improve the quality of life of the public, IAM plants and places different types of festive plants in the streets and alleys during festive periods and important days. After the festive periods, some of the green materials are collected and replanted, while plants that have wilted or cannot be replanted are sent to a local composting facility for return to nature depending on the circumstances. Furthermore, some plants are offered to the public depending on the plants’ growth, the bureau points out.
