The Times Higher Education Asia Universities Summit was held for the first time in Macau recently, with the event taking place at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Cotai from 22-24 April, bringing into the city about 650 university leaders, senior managers and policymakers from higher educational institutions around the world.
Supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) and hosted by Times Higher Education (THE) in partnership with MUST, the “THE Asia Universities Summit” – themed “Asia’s rise: A transformative journey in science, technology and innovation” – explored the latest trends in higher education and technological innovation in Asia, jointly fostering high-quality development in higher education, according to DSEDJ.
In addition, various awards were presented at THE Awards Asia 2025, and THE Asia University Rankings 2025 was announced, during the three-day event.
This year, over 850 universities made the list, an increase of more than 100 institutions year-on-year. On the list, University of Macau’s ranking rose from last year’s 36th place to 34th, while MUST climbed one spot to 57th. – GNM
