There were 2,030 registered doctors and 3,058 nurses in Macau at the end of 2024, representing a year-on-year increase of 50 doctors and 78 nurses, according to data from the city’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

In addition, there were 732 Chinese medicine doctors or Chinese herbalists, an increase of four practitioners, and 304 dentists/odontologists, representing a decrease of two practitioners.

This data means that there were 2.9 doctors, 1.1 Chinese medicine doctors/Chinese herbalists, 0.4 dentist/odontologist and 4.4 nurses for every 1,000 people among the SAR’s population – like the figures in 2023.

Meanwhile, Macau’s five hospitals provided a total of 1,779 inpatient beds at the end of last year, down by 103 year-on-year mainly because of the redeployment of hospital beds, with the occupancy rate of inpatient beds standing at 71.5 per cent, a year-on-year decrease of 2.3 percentage points, according to DSEC.

In contrast, the number of non-inpatient beds, including the ones used for emergency services and day care, increased by 97. More details on the city’s health statistics can be found via this link. – GNM
