An exhibition showcasing facsimiles and reprints of rare photographs by late German-American Hollywood fashion and portrait photographer Horst P. Horst – also known for having photographed various European royalty and aristocrats – is currently held at City of Dreams (COD), Level 1, right next to LAN Bar.
Born Horst Paul Albert Bohrmann in Germany, 1906, the lensman was a visionary artist whose work transcended fashion, blending light, composition and atmospheric illusion to craft a world of timeless elegance and sensual sophistication.
Among the celebrities Horst had photographed were Hollywood stars Bette Davis, Joan Crawford and Marlene Dietrich, while Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark and her daughter-in-law Princess Michael of Kent were among the aristocrats whose photos had been taken by the famous photographer.
Princess Michael of Kent’s photograph, taken in 1991, was Horst’s final work for British Vogue. He died at the age of 93 in the United States in 1999.
Some of Horst’s work can now be seen in the COD exhibition. Titled “Horst: Photographer of Style”, the exhibition brings together collections from London’s Victoria and Albert Museum as well as the Horst Estate. The display runs until 12 September. (Kaira Sam/Gilbert Humphrey)
