AROUND 400 JOIN ANNUAL CHEER MACAO PARADE

Around 400 Christians in Macao joined the 13th Cheer Macao Parade from 3 pm to 7:30 pm yesterday. Jointly organised by local Christian churches, the Cheer Macao Parade 2023 kicked off with an opening ceremony at Amizade Plaza (Sintra Square), after which participants went around the city – either by walking or on a Cheer Macao bus – to cheer the people of Macau with Christian and positive messages of encouragement.

Meanwhile, various activities and games were held back at the Sintra Square during the parade, which concluded with a closing ceremony at the square with a prayer over the city.

Launched in 2011, the annual Cheer Macao Parade also aims to promote the Christian culture and “make known the noble character of Christ”, according to the organisers.

“We gather all the Christians and Macau people, even the tourists, to cheer Macau … to love this land, to promote positivity, and to give joy, peace and love to the people of Macau,” Edgar Tam, a representative of Cheer Macao Parade, told Good News Macau before the event’s opening ceremony yesterday.

“We are so excited that, after the pandemic, once again we come out on the street to bless every aspect of Macau and pray that God will bring Macau into a brighter future,” he added.

Murni Denize, who joined the parade for the first time yesterday, said, “I think this event is also good for Christians in Macau to get together, meet and make new friends too.” (Wong Kin Ang)
