Macau’s very-own exhibition fair “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025” (Art Macao 2025), will run from this month through October, with nearly 30 exhibitions scheduled to be held across the city, according to a press conference held at the Macao Cultural Centre (CCM) in Nape earlier this week.
The exhibitions are divided in six sections, namely Main Exhibition, Public Art Exhibition, City Pavilions, Special Exhibition, Local Curatorial Project and Collateral Exhibition, highlighting pioneering artists from about a dozen countries and regions.
The popular art event is expected to further foster a meaningful dialogue between Macau and the international art world.
In the “Main Exhibition”, for example, chief curator Feng Boyi has taken the everyday phrase “Hey, what brings you here?” as its theme, with this section slated to open at the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) on 19 July, featuring nearly 80 cutting-edge works by 46 artists from 13 countries, including paintings, sculptures, installations, videos and photography, among others.
Themed “Waves & Ways”, the “Public Art Exhibition” section integrates the historical, present and everyday spaces of Macau into the urban fabric and daily life, according to IC. This section presents five distinct sets of works created by eight leading artists, which emphasises public engagement through participation, inviting the public to interact with the art and bridge the gap between the creators and viewers.
Meanwhile, this year’s “Local Curatorial Project” has selected six proposals from nearly 40 submissions. Featuring 35 artists, these proposals explore the dialogue between the historical memory of Macau and its situation in a global context, covering a wide range of aspects like cultural DNA, linguistic landscapes, female narratives, as well as technology and ecology.
Presented by the city’s six integrated resort companies, the “Special Exhibition” will present “In the mind of Bruno Moinard” (Galaxy Entertainment Group), “The Haas Brothers: Clair de Lune” (Melco Resorts & Entertainment), “cAI™️ Lab 2.0—Is It Your Gaze that Meets Mine, or Mine that Seeks Yours?” (MGM), “Dopamine: Fountain of Happiness” (Sands China), “Picasso: Beauty and Drama” (SJM Resorts) and “Hello China, Hello Macao – The Odyssey of Jingdezhen Porcelain: A Heritage Voyage from Macao to the World” (Wynn Resorts Macau).
