British actress Dame Margaret Natalie Smith, better-known simply as Maggie Smith, died peacefully in hospital on 27 September, the “Sister Act”, “Harry Potter” and “Downton Abbey” actress’s family announced.
During her seven decades of career, Smith received numerous accolades that included two Oscars, five BAFTA Awards, four Emmys, three Golden Globe Awards and a Tony Award. Additionally, she received six Laurence Olivier Awards nominations. She was made a Dame by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1990.
