The Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) has unveiled two customs officers who allegedly exaggerated their illness of lower back problems since 2016 and 2018, respectively, making the doctors agree to issue medical certificates or sick leave.
However, they were eventually found to be carrying out activities on those sick leave days that were not in line with their so-called medical conditions – including travelling out of Macau, according to the CCAC.
In total, they were both granted sick leave of more than 1,400 and 900 days, respectively.
The total paid leave amounted to more than MOP 1.7 and 1.3 million, respectively, leading to the duo being suspected of having committed the “crime of fraud involving considerably high value”, according to the SAR’s Penal Code. Both cases have been passed on to the Public Prosecutions Office for further investigations.
