Macau Electricity Company (CEM) has suspended power supply in some of Macau’s low-lying areas that have been affected by flooding resulting from Super Typhoon Ragasa as water level reaches 1-1.5-metre-high in those areas to ensure public safety as well as protect power facilities.
The affected areas primarily include the areas of Inner Harbour, Praça de Ponte e Horta, A-Ma Temple, Rua da Praia do Manduco and Patane.
The Civil Protection Operations Centre, however, advises residents and tourists in these affected areas not to panic and continue to follow the guidelines from local authorities.
CEM will arrange power restoration as soon as the flood recedes, the company has pointed out in its announcement posted on its Facebook page. The public can check their buildings’ power supply statuses on CEM’s website by inserting the buildings’ names. For more information visit the electricity’s website or Facebook page.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Signal No. 10 remains in effect, with Ragasa, as of 11 am, was estimated to be about 90km south-southwest of Macau, moving west-northwest at around 20km/h, gradually edging closer to Macau, according to the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG). Moreover, As of 11 am, the Civil Protection Operations Centre has recorded a total of 66 incidents throughout the Macau SAR, including 17 cases of “buildings/lamp posts/trees that are on the verge of collapse or have collapsed”, 43 cases of “concrete, signboards, windows, canopies or other objects falling or swinging, as well as four cases of “scaffolding, scales or other construction facilities falling or swinging. – GNM
