The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) has cancelled all typhoon signals as Typhoon Mitag has made landfall and is weakening, with Tropical Cyclone Ragasa now forecast to enter the northern South China Sea early in the coming week and expected to begin affecting Macau on Tuesday.
Currently located in the northwest Pacific Ocean, Ragasa is forecast to continue moving in a north-northwesterly direction over the coming days and its intensity is expected to increase significantly.
Based on the current track forecast, Ragasa is expected to turn into a super typhoon as it approaches Macau and the surrounding areas.
Given its anticipated broad circulation and the combined influence of the northeast monsoon, winds in Macau are expected to strengthen significantly from late Tuesday in the coming week (23 September), with Frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms expected in the middle of next week (24-25 September), potentially accompanied by a noticeable level of storm surge, according to SMG.
The bureau has advised the public to closely monitor the latest weather updates and take early precautions against wind damage and flooding as uncertainty remains regarding Ragasa’s trajectory and intensity.
