The Macau SAR Government and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China have jointly established the Centre of Preservation and Transmission for Cultural Heritage of the Palace Museum – located on the ground floor of the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) in Nape – which was officially opened on Thursday last week.
It is the first cultural venue jointly established by the Macau Government and the Palace Museum.
The 900-square-metre centre was established in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the Macau SAR’s establishment, also with the aim to strengthen the preservation, restoration, education and promotion of cultural heritage in Macau and contribute to the establishment of Macau as “a base for exchange and cooperation with Chinese culture as the mainstream and the coexistence of different cultures”, according to the SAR’s Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC).
Equipped with specialises laboratories for the restoration of cultural heritage and exhibition spaces, the centre will in the future serve as a new platform for collaboration and technical exchange between the parties involved in the restoration of local cultural relics, thus contributing to enhance the system for safeguarding the city’s cultural heritage, the bureau has pointed out.
Meanwhile, along with the centre’s inauguration, the “Forbidden City Architecture Conservation Exhibition” was also launched in the centre’s heritage exhibition and promotion space, showcasing the country’s cutting-edge technologies and achievements in architectural heritage preservation, and promoting the outstanding traditional Chinese culture and architectural techniques.
The centre is open from 10 am to 7 pm daily, including public holidays, except Mondays. Admission is free. For more information visit IC’s or Cultural Heritage of Macao’s website.
