Macau SAR’s Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng said on Thursday that the local government will work closely with Guangdong Province and the neighbouring Hong Kong SAR, as well as the Organising Committee of the 15th National Games, to ensure the smooth progress of all preparations for the sporting event.
Ho made the remark in Guangzhou, Guangdong recently as he attended the inauguration ceremony for the Organising Committee of the 15th National Games, as well as the inauguration ceremony of the Organising Committee of the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games.
Jointly hosted by Guangdong, Macau and Hong Kong, the 15th National Games will be held this year for 13 days from 9-21 November, with our SAR set to host four competition events that comprise table tennis, 3×3 basketball, 5×5 basketball (under 18 boys) and volleyball (adult women), as well as a mass-participation event in karate.
Reportedly, Hong Kong is scheduled to host eight sporting events in the national games, while Guangdong will host the remaining.
Ho said that residents in Macau were eagerly waiting for these sporting events and that the SAR had the “necessary conditions and experience” to host them successfully, with the Organising Committee for the Macao Competition Zone of the 15th National Games set up in 2022.
Meanwhile, the recruitment of volunteers for the Macao Competition Zone at the 15th National Games was launched in February last year and, as of this February, there were over 9,000 people who had registered to volunteer.
Ho stressed that his government would strictly adhere to the requirements of “simplicity, safety and brilliance” in its part of organising and hosting the National Games. (Wong Kin Ang)
