The exhibition “Gems from Kilns: Shiwan Ceramics from the Macao Museum of Art Collection” kicked off at the museum’s fourth floor on Wednesday.

The museum is in the Macao Cultural Centre (CCM) complex in Nape.

Organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), which is under the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the exhibition is divided into four major themes: Shiwan Ceramic Roof Ridge, Shiwan Pottery, Floral and Faunal Imagery, as well as Shiwan Figurines.

In addition, the exhibition features 123 pieces/sets of Shiwan ceramic treasures, tracing the journey of Shiwan ceramics from a regional craft to one engaging in international dialogues, and allowing viewers to experience the Lingnan legend forged by earth and fire, according to IC.

Since the mid-Ming dynasty, Shiwan ceramics are characterised by vibrant glazes and unique techniques that blend pottery craftsmanship introduced by immigrants from the Central Plains with local Lingnan culture.

The exhibition is open daily from 10 am to 7 pm, including public holidays, except Mondays, until 7 October. Admission is free (no admission after 6:30 pm). For more information visit MAM’s website. – GNM
