Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng said yesterday that the Macau Government would review the effectiveness of collaborative efforts with business associations, namely efforts that were aimed at boosting consumption in the community.
Ho made the remarks at a plenary session of the Legislative Assembly (AL) to answer the AL members’ questions on the government’s policy and social issues.
He noted that while the SAR’s economy was recovering and improving, with businesses in tourist areas particularly thriving, there was still “insufficient flow of people spending in residential areas” during weekends, particularly in the Northern District near the Macau-Zhuhai border checkpoints.
On the basis of balancing the economic development of tourist areas and residential areas in Macau, the government would explore the possibility of launching further supportive measures.
Meanwhile, during yesterday’s session, the chief executive addressed various questions from 29 AL members about topics including employment, training, talent policies, education, sports, cultural heritage, social security, housing, urban renewal, care for vulnerable groups, tourism, cross-boundary e-commerce and coordination of major events.
