The Macau Government has officially banned the import of aquatic food products, meat, vegetables and fruits from 10 Japanese prefectures and regions starting 24 August, when Japan began to discharge the Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean. Furthermore, the import ban includes live and fresh food products, food products of animal origin, sea salt and seaweed, milk and milk products, poultry eggs and various meat products, according to the Government Information Bureau (GCS). The 10 prefectures and regions are Fukushima, Chiba, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Gunma, Miyagi, Niigata, Nagano and Saitama Prefectures, as well as Tokyo Metropolis. Meanwhile, Hong Kong and mainland China have also made similar moves in the light of the nuclear-contaminated water discharge.
