Typhoon signal no. 8 will be issued between 3 am and 6 am on Sunday, with the possibility of higher signals being issued during daytime tomorrow, according to the weather forecast published in the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau’s (SMG) website.
According to the forecast, updated at 6:20 pm today, severe tropical storm “Wipha” will edge relatively close to the Pearl River Estuary tomorrow (20 July) with significant impact on Macau, with local winds expected to strengthen significantly in the morning, accompanied with some showers and thunderstorms.
SMG has pointed out in the forecast the possibility of signal no. 9 being raised tomorrow morning is medium to relatively high, while the possibility of signal no. 10 being raised at daytime tomorrow is medium.
In addition, as Wipha is expected to further intensify together with the heavy rain, there are chances of flooding in the city’s Inner Harbour area and Macau’s low-lying areas. The public is advised to monitor the latest weather information and take precautions against strong winds and flooding, such as securing windows and doors as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the current signal no. 3 was issued at 5:30 pm today, with strong-level winds with gusts already affecting the sea areas and the SAR’s four bridges. Road users are advised to pay attention to traffic safety measures. Furthermore, SMG has advised motorcyclists to travel between the Macau Peninsula and Taipa through the motorcycle lanes on Sai Van Bridge or the Macau Bridge.
