The organisers of the “Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR – 2024 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races” held a blessing ceremony at the event’s venue, Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre, yesterday as the city is getting ready for the races to kick off this weekend.
Organised by the Sports Bureau (ID), SJM Resorts and Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China, as well as co-organised by the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) and the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (SAFP), the sporting event will be held from 8-9 June.
Yesterday’s ceremony was attended by ID President Pun Weng Kun, SJM Resorts Director Angela Leong, Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China Chairman Lai Pak Leng, SAFP Deputy Director Joana Maria Noronha, IAM’s Member of the Administration Committee on Municipal Affairs Isabel Celeste Jorge, ID Vice Presidents Christine Lam and Luís Gomes, Fire Services Bureau Deputy Commissioner Lam Chon Sang and Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China President Vong Ka Hou.
Meanwhile, teams from mainland China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia and the Philippines are scheduled to compete with local teams during the dragon boat event, according to ID.
In addition, parade performances by cultural and artistic groups will be held during this year’s event, while various types of booths selling local cultural and creative products as well as snacks and drinks will be available around the event’s venue. There will also be a themed photo area, booth games, workshops and various performances.
The races will be broadcasted live on TV channels TDM Ou Mun, TDM Sport and Ou Mun-Macau (with Cantonese and Portuguese commentaries), as well as on the event’s official website (www.macaudragonboat.com) and on Facebook page “Macao Major Sporting Events”.
