The newly revamped Red Market finally reopened yesterday after two years of refurbishment work.
About 120 stall vendors have earlier completed their relocation from the temporary Red Market back to the original site.
The ceremony for business resumption at the iconic Red Market – Macau’s oldest wet market – took place at 11 am yesterday and was officiated by Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) Chairman José Tavares, among other IAM officials, as well as representatives from several local associations.
Tavares said in his speech yesterday that the timely completion of the reorganisation works of Red Market relied on the facilitation of all the market’s stall vendors and he encouraged them to stay committed to their operation as they and IAM jointly provide a “comfortable and clean shopping experience” for the public.
Meanwhile, the hawkers surrounding the exterior of the Red Market also resumed their business in their original locations – in the direction facing the market. (Gilbert Humphrey)
