TRAVELS – RISOGRAPHS BY ANDRE CARRILHO

An exhibition inspired by legendary 16th century travellers Fernão Mendes Pinto from Portugal and Xu Xiake from China was inaugurated at the Nostalgic House of the Taipa Houses in Taipa on Thursday.

Titled “Spiritual Narrative – 2025 Annual Arts Exhibition between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries”, the exhibition has documented the two travellers’ voyages in works that “mirror philosophical reflections on life”, according to Macau’s Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the exhibition’s organiser.

The exhibition features eight artists from China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, namely Cao Yu and Tong Wenmin from Mainland China, Wong Hio Chit and Cosmo Wong from Macau SAR, Carla Cabanas from Portugal, Délio Jasse from Angola, Eugénia Mussa from Mozambique and Juliana Matsumura from Brazil.

There are 28 pieces or sets of works displayed in the exhibition, including painting, sculptures, videos and installations, weaving a tapestry of cultural contexts of China and the Portuguese-speaking countries.

The exhibition is part of the “7th Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries” and runs until 1 March 2026. It is held at the Exhibitions Gallery and Nostalgic House of the Taipa Houses, and is open daily from 10 am to 7pm (last admission at 6:30pm), including on public holidays. It is closed on Mondays.

Admission to the exhibition is free. For more information visit IC’s website. – GNM
