“The Wave Maker/Hokusai’s Prints” exhibition kicked off at Casa Garden yesterday. A full set of 46 prints of Hokusai’s most famous “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji”, originally created between 1831 and 1934, plus 10 additional works, are on display at the gallery of the Foundation, and more from the contemporaneous masterpieces “Tour of Waterfalls in Various Provinces” and “A Thousand Views of The Sea and Sea”, which depicts the mood of a watery countryside, are presented at the exhibition, both of them also are the finest examples of the landscapes and watery scenes that throughout Hokusai’s career.
Hokusai was the only Japanese among the 100 most influential people of the past thousand years, as voted by Time Magazine in 1999. Organised by the Macau Delegation of the Orient Foundation, the exhibition is open from 10 am to 7 pm daily, except Monday, until 21 January.
