The International School of Macao (TIS) in Taipa held its “TIS Winter Concert 2023-24” at the school’s Neil P. Johnston Theatre last night, showcasing TIS students’ musical talents and featuring captivating performances by the school’s Flute choir, Clarinet ensemble, Jazz Band, String ensemble, TIS Concert Band and TIS Symphonic Band.
TIS Secondary Music Teacher Iris Chu said: “TIS value performing arts. Our band classes are compulsory classes instead of extracurricular … It is very meaningful for music students to have opportunities to perform within and/or outside the school community.”
Clarinet Sectional Principal Isabella Chong, Grade 11, told Good News Macau that “it can be difficult sometimes for teenagers to recognise their own talents unless they are given the support and opportunity to try and explore”, adding that the music showcase can help enhance the students’ confidence.
The TIS Winter Concert’s second show will take place in the same theatre at 3 pm today. Admission fee is MOP 100. (Gilbert Humphrey)
