Macau’s Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) has replaced typhoon signal no. 3 with signal no. 8 as Super Typhoon Yagi continues to move towards the areas between the western coast of Guangdong and Hainan Island.

According to the bureau, Yagi will be about 300 kilometres away from Macau after midnight tonight, in the early hours of 6 September, around which time the wind in the SAR will rapidly strengthen, with frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, low-lying areas in the Inner Harbour district are predicted to experience flooding up to half a metre high between 8 am and 3 pm tomorrow.
