Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai has congratulated the karate team in the Macau athletes’ delegation participating in the 15th National Games after the team won the Karate Men’s Team Kata (Amateurs) category, giving the SAR its first-ever National Games gold medal, Macau’s Government Information Bureau (GCS) has announced.
The local athletes in the winning karate team comprise Kuok Kin Hang, Fong Man Hou and Cheang Pek Lok.
The gold medal is not only Macau’s first in this edition of the competition, but also the first-ever gold medal in the city’s history of participation in the National Games, making it a new milestone in the local sporting development, Sam said.
Meanwhile, the chief executive will lead a Macau SAR Government delegation to attend the 15th National Games’ opening ceremony at the Guangdong Olympic Sports Center Stadium in Guangzhou tomorrow, according to GCS.
The local government delegation will include Legislative Assembly (AL) President Cheong Weng Chon, Court of Final Appeal President Song Man Lei, Secretary for Economy and Finance Tai Kin Ip, Secretary for Security Chan Tsz King, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture O Lam, Secretary for Transport and Public Works Tam Vai Man, Prosecutor-General Tong Hio Fong, Commissioner Against Corruption Ao Ieong Seong, Commissioner of Audit Ao Ieong U, Unitary Police Service Commissioner General Leong Man Cheong, as well as the Chief-of-Officer of the Chief Executive’s Office, Chan Kak.
Furthermore, Members of the Organising Committee of the Macau Competition Zone of the 15th National Games will also attend the opening ceremony.
While the chief executive is away from Macau, Secretary for Administration and Justice Wong Sio Chak will be Acting Chief Executive.
Jointly hosted by Guangdong, Macau and Hong Kong, the 15th National Games will be held this year for 13 days from 9-21 November, with our SAR set to host four competition events that comprise table tennis, 3×3 basketball, 5×5 basketball (under 18 boys) and volleyball (adult women), as well as a mass-participation event in karate.
Reportedly, Hong Kong is scheduled to host eight sporting events in the national games, while Guangdong will host the remaining. (Gilbert Humphrey)
