CREATIVE MACAU’S NEW EXHIBITION CELEBRATES FOUNDING OF PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA AND MACAU SAR’S ESTABLISHMENT

A photo exhibition titled “Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region – Retrospective Exhibition of Macao Decorative Archways for the Celebration of China’s National Day” will be launched at the IAM Gallery on 20 September.

Jointly organised by the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) and the Oral History Association of Macao, co-organised by the Macau Artist Society and supported by Macao Daily News, the exhibition will also display the archways’ design drawings and interviews with craftsmen, showcasing the development and changes of the SAR’s archways built to celebrate the National Day since the late 1940s.

The exhibition comprises four areas: “Echoes of Time and Space – Decorative Archways for the Celebration of China’s National Day in History of Macao”, “Bonds with Motherland – Heroes behind the Archways”, “Video of Memories – Oral History Interview” and “Pleasant Interactions – Educational Area”.

The exhibition aims to enable visitors to have a deeper understanding of the history of the National Day celebrations in Macau as well as enhance local citizens’ “sense of national identity, belonging and national pride”, according to IAM.

The exhibition will be open from 20 September to 20 November, from 9 am to 9 pm daily, with free guided tours in Cantonese and Mandarin available on site from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm every Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, outdoor touring exhibitions will be held at Areia Preta Urban Park (15 September to 30 October), Lotus Square (30 October t0 15 December), as well at the Rotunda do Estádio in Taipa from 15 December 2023 to 24 January 2024.

For more information about the exhibition contact the Oral History Association of Macao at 6596 3338 or the Civic Service Hotline at 2833 7676. (Gilbert Humphrey)
