After months of performing in the “Midlife, Sing & Shine! 2” (中年好聲音2), Macau singer German Ku – also known by his Portuguese name Germano Guilherme – finally won the singing reality competition television series hosted by Hong Kong’s TVB.
The 36-year-old local-born Macanese entertainer, who studied at Macau Portuguese School (EPM) and the Macao Polytechnic Institute (now University), has received a lot of support from local fans, particularly among the Macanese community, throughout the competition.
“Macau people and the Macanese community are all very proud of him. I can see he’s worked very hard and has improved a lot throughout the competition,” fellow Macanese Valentina Oane Marques told Good News Macau today.
Marques, who has been following the singer’s journey in the competition since the show was launched in the second half of last year, added that Ku’s victory in the event’s final last night “means a lot to Macau and the people” and was “very inspiring.
She also said: “I wish he can further his career and let more people know about Macau’s talent and, most importantly, he’ll continue to do what he loves the most and enjoy every bit of it. We are his forever-fans.”
Speaking on live television after winning the competition last night, Ku said he was surprised to get full scores from all the judges.
“I cannot breathe now … This is crazy,” he said in Cantonese while holding back his tears. He thanked all the mentors in the show, TVB and other competitors.
“Thank you all in Hong Kong for accepting me, someone who comes from Macau,” Ku added. “I also want to thank all the friends who are supporting me from Macau.” (Gilbert Humphrey)
