The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) hoisted Typhoon Signal No. 9 at 11 am as Typhoon Wipha edges closer to the Pearl River Estuary’s vicinity, with signal no. 10 scheduled to be issued in Macau at 12:30 pm, according to the bureau’s weather forecast published on its website.

According to SMG, based on the current forecast track, Wipha will directly hit Macau soon and bring significant impact, with gale winds, heavy showers and thunderstorms. In addition, wind force may reach level 12, with gusts up to level 14 and flooding expected in the city’s low-lying areas and the Inner Harbou area.

The bureau has also warned that Wipha poses a “significant threat” to Macau and people across the SAR are advised to stay in safe indoor places and away from doors and windows exposed to the wind, while paying attention to the latest weather information, such as via SMG’s website.
