The Consulate-General of Malaysia in Hong Kong hosted its National Day Reception in Macau for the first time on Friday night, which was attended by several dozen Macau-based Malaysian citizens. The annual event is usually held in Hong Kong. Supported by the Malaysia Macau Chamber of Commerce, the local event was attended by Malaysian Consul-General to Hong Kong and Macau Muzambli Markam, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Alamin, Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong and the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in Macau SAR, Liu Xianfa. Local casino tycoon-cum-legislator Angela Leong On Kei and other community leaders were also among the guests.

“Macau and Malaysia have developed extensive and longstanding ties. We are close business and trading partners. In recent years, Macau and Malaysia have further reinforced our cooperation in tourism, trade, conventions and exhibitions,” Lei said in his speech.

He added, “I would like to invite more Malaysian companies to join us in Macau. In the coming years, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin will create enormous opportunities for Macau and the international companies that partner with our territory.” (Wong Kin Ang)
