Foreign visitors aged 11 or above who hold a Portuguese or Singaporean passport starting today can use the conventional two-gate e-channels across Macau’s border checkpoints upon registration to enter and exit the SAR, the Public Security Police Force announced earlier this week.
Applicants are first required to complete the registration formalities in person with their valid passports at these registration locations: Border Gate Checkpoint (Departure Office at Departure Hall), Qingmao Checkpoint (Departure Hall on 3/F – Departure Office), Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Checkpoint (Departure Office at Hong Kong-Macao Hall), Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal Checkpoint (Arrival Hall), Taipa Ferry Terminal Checkpoint (Arrival Hall), Macau International Airport Checkpoint (Arrival Hall), Hengqin Port Checkpoint (Arrival Hall – Visa Room) and the Immigration Building of the Public Security Police Force at Pac On.
In addition, registrants’ passports must be valid for no less than 90 days, and minors aged 11 to 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and produce the registrant’s birth certificate as well as the parent’s or guardian’s ID – for a guardian, a proof of legal relationship should also be provided.
All visitors can still use the traditional counters for immigration clearance even if they have completed the e-channel registration.
The extension of e-channel service to eligible Portuguese and Singaporean nationals is in line with the Macau Government’s “One Centre, One Platform, One Base” strategic positions, because of which the Public Security Police Force has continued to improve immigration control and promote clearance facilitation at various border checkpoints in the SAR, providing more convenient and efficient clearance services to both locals and visitors.
With the support and cooperation of relevant government departments in Macau, such as the Public Security Forces Affairs Bureau of Macau and the Identification Services Bureau, the Public Security Police Force has implemented a number of software and hardware upgrades to the e-channels and introduced new technologies like the QR code for clearance and the use of iris instead of fingerprints for identity verification, effectively shortening the waiting time for clearance and enhancing clearance efficiency.
