President Xi Jinping attended the “25th Anniversary Celebration of Macau’s Return to the Motherland and the Inauguration Ceremony of the Sixth-term Government of the Macau Special Administrative Region” at the Macao East Asian Games Dome in Cotai yesterday.
Xi expressed yesterday his confidence in new Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai, pointing out that the sixth-term Macau SAR Government chief will lead the new government and the Macau people from all walks of life in comprehensively, accurately and unwaveringly implementing the principle of “one country, two systems” under which the Macau people administer Macau with a high degree of autonomy.
The president also believes the SAR will firmly safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, vigorously promote appropriate economic diversification and continuously improve public well-being.
He also said Macau will leverage its unique position and advantages to better integrate into overall national development and deepen exchanges and cooperation with other countries and regions.
Xi said: “The central government will fully support the chief executive of the Macau SAR government in fulfilling their duties.”
Sam has expressed his gratitude to the president and the central government, pledging to lead the new SAR government in breaking new ground for the successful practice of “one country, two systems” in Macau.
Meanwhile, Xi, who arrived in Macau on Friday, left the SAR yesterday.
