Severe tropical storm “Talim” has intensified into a typhoon and Macau’s Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) hoisted Typhoon Signal No. 8 – the city’s first this year – at 5:30 am today. As of 9 am, Typhoon Talim was located about 220 km south-southwest of Macau, moving towards the western coast of Guangdong province, according to the bureau. Based on the bureau’s forecast track, Talim will be closest to Macau during daytime today, with the strongest wind expected to occur in Macau at noon.

The bureau has warned that the local weather will become unsettled with occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms, while flooding has occurred in the Inner Harbour area, the height of which is expected to reach about 0.4-0.8 m. Meanwhile, schools, banks, government offices, among others, are closed due to the typhoon and the public is advised to pay attention to the latest weather information via the bureau’s website
