The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) held its “USJ International Cultural Carnival 2024: Embracing the Charms of Multiculturalism” at its Ilha Verde Campus last Saturday, with over 30 diverse cultural booths organised by the university’s staff, students and alumni members representing more than 50 different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
Attended by over 500 people, the event also featured information booths from various USJ faculties, art exhibitions, a mini market, a coffee area and some performances. In addition, the event presented a grand parade of USJ students and faculty members from around the world proudly carrying flags representing their respective countries.
USJ Vice Rector for Student Affairs Teresa Loong said that the carnival aimed to provide participants with a “taste of the university’s multicultural campus and enrich the experiences of local residents and visitors by promoting a deeper understanding of Macau’s local culture and community among international students”.
Huang Xuan Wen, a USJ student from Malaysia, told Good News Macau that the event was about “learning cultures from different countries”. She added, “We have a chance to experience their food, clothes and cultures.” (Jonathan Mohr, Staff Reporter)
