More than 20 museums in Macau are co-organising the “Macao International Museum Day Carnival 2024”, which will kick off with an opening ceremony at the Mount Fortress Garden at 2 pm on 12 May, according to a press conference held at the Macao Grand Prix Museum yesterday.

The annual event is held in celebration of the International Museum Day that falls on 18 May. This year’s carnival will feature various online and offline activities, including game booths, workshops and guided tours. The event will be open to the public. Registration to join the activities can be done via the Museums in Macao’s website.

Designated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977, the International Museum Day aims to draw the public’s attention to museums, promoting the sustainable development of cultural undertakings and museums. This year’s International Museum Day is themed “Museums for Education and Research”.

Furthermore, through this year’s activities, Macau museums will offer comprehensive educational experiences and showcase the highlights of the SAR’s museums and cultural heritage.

Throughout May, the museums will also hold exhibitions and other celebratory activities, with some museums also open to the public for free at designated times, according to yesterday’s press conference. The mobile game “My Museum Visit Passport” will be rolled out between 12 May and 2 June.

On 12 May, the event at the Mount Fortress Garden will be held from 2-6 pm.
